A command-line tool that enables Claude Code and Codex to have bidirectional conversations, reviewing code together in threads with memory and enforced safety
About parlo

parlo enables two coding agents to collaborate by having conversations with each other. Claude Code and Codex can initiate discussions, review code, and provide feedback in shared threads that maintain context across multiple turns. The system enforces hard limits to prevent infinite loops: 20 messages per thread, 3 concurrent colleagues per agent, 2 levels of nesting, and 30-minute response timeouts. By default, agents are read-only to prevent unintended file modifications, but write access can be granted explicitly. Installation requires npm and works on macOS or Linux alongside Claude Code and Codex.

FAQ
- Can two agents get stuck talking forever?
- No. A colleague can only answer its caller, and parlo enforces hard limits: 20 messages per thread, 3 colleagues at once per caller, 2 levels deep, and 30 minutes to reply before the colleague is stopped.
- Does it need a server or an MCP setup?
- No. parlo is a command and a skill with no app, no server, no MCP server, and no hooks. Its data lives in one file, ~/.parlo/parlo.db.
- Will the other agent change my files?
- Not unless you allow it. The colleague is read-only by default; pass --write or --worktree to let it change files.
- Can Claude Code talk to Codex?
- Yes. Claude Code sends Codex a message with parlo ask codex "…", Codex works on it and replies, and they can go back and forth on the same thread.
- Can Codex start a conversation with Claude Code?
- Yes. Codex runs parlo ask --detach claude -- '…', then parlo wait to collect the reply.
