Custodian Labs is a platform for building, protecting and deploying production-grade AI agents. It offers three ways to create agents: describing what you want, coding with the Python or JavaScript SDK, or using a visual no-code builder. The platform's Guardian Layer automatically detects and protects sensitive data (PII) before it reaches any AI model, with options to remove, mask or transform personal information while maintaining context. Agents can run on over 100 models including GPT, Claude, Gemini and Mistral, and can use tools like web search, Gmail, X, document scraping and any MCP tool. The platform includes built-in knowledge bases with automatic retrieval, embeddings and citations, session memory and multi-agent routing capabilities. There is no infrastructure to manage: users deploy once and get a hosted endpoint that auto-scales.

- How much code do I actually need to write?
- You can build a production agent with six lines of Python using the SDK, or no code at all with the visual builder. Building the same support agent with knowledge base, memory and PII protection yourself would require 100+ lines of code plus a vector database, Redis, server, Docker and CI.
- Does my sensitive data reach the AI model?
- No. The Guardian Layer scans every message for sensitive data (PII) before any model sees it. Names, emails, amounts and custom entities are masked, redacted or swapped for realistic replacements, then the originals are relinked in the response. The Guardian Layer is on by default.
- Do I need a database, vector store or servers?
- No. Custodian handles all infrastructure. Upload documents and the platform automatically handles chunking, embeddings, retrieval and citations. Deploying gives you a hosted chat endpoint with session memory built in.
- Which AI models can I use?
- You can use any of over 100 models including Claude, GPT, Gemini, Mistral and open-source models. Pick a model per agent, bring your own API key, or just click the model you want in the builder. Switching models in code is a one-line change without affecting your agent logic.
