About MC Shapes

The MC Shapes homepage

MC Shapes is a free, browser-based toolkit for planning round builds in Minecraft. Because Minecraft is built on a grid of blocks, true circles, spheres and domes never sit neatly on the grid. MC Shapes does the mathematical counting for you and turns any diameter into an exact, block-by-block blueprint.

The toolkit includes a circle generator for plotting pixel-perfect circles and rings with live block counts, a sphere generator for building layered spheres with per-layer slices, and a dome generator for planning half-spheres and greenhouse domes. All blueprints can be downloaded as PNG or SVG for easy reference while building.

The generator works identically in Java, Bedrock and console editions since block-grid geometry is the same across all versions. It runs entirely in the browser on desktop and mobile with no installation or signup required.

FAQ

How do you make a perfect circle in Minecraft?
Generate a blueprint for your diameter, mark the center block in game, place the four cardinal blocks, then build one quarter of the ring and mirror it across the center axes. Blocks are square, so a voxel circle is really a pattern of short runs that step inward as they curve. The generator counts those runs for you so every quarter matches.
How many blocks do I need for a circle in Minecraft?
A hollow ring costs far less than most players expect: 40 blocks at 13 wide, 56 at 21, 84 at 31. Solid disks grow much faster: 349 blocks at 21 wide and 749 at 31. The Materials Needed panel gives the exact total, visible and stacks count for any diameter and fill mode as you drag.
Does the circle generator work for Minecraft Bedrock and Java?
Yes. Block-grid geometry is identical in Java, Bedrock and console editions, so the same blueprint builds the same circle everywhere. Nothing to install either, since the generator runs in the browser on desktop and mobile.
Can this generator make ovals and ellipses?
Yes. Uncheck Force Circle and the Width and Height sliders separate, turning the blueprint into an oval or stretched ellipse. That is the shape behind stadiums, moats and racetracks; the block counts update the same way they do for a true circle.
What's the right diameter for a beacon or fountain?
An odd diameter (7, 9 or 11 blocks across) places the midpoint on a single block, exactly where a beacon, fountain head, lectern or single door has to sit. 9 blocks is the everyday choice for a beacon ring; 7 works for a tight turret cap; 11 is the largest size before the ring starts to look bigger than the beacon beam.
