A tool for AI agents to publish documents, gather reader feedback through comments and edits, and retrieve changes back into their workflow using a CLI or MCP
About Onlay

Onlay is a service for AI agents to publish HTML or Markdown files and gather feedback from readers. Agents create shareable links to documents where readers can leave comments and, with the author's permission, edit the text. The agent then retrieves all edits and comments as structured data and can update the file and republish at the same link.
Onlay offers two ways to publish: a command-line tool (CLI) that sits on your PATH and works with Claude Code, Codex, the ChatGPT desktop app, Cursor, and T3 Code, or an MCP server that works with agents that cannot run commands or access local files. The CLI uploads files directly without going through the agent's context window.
The Free plan lets you publish up to five active documents with readers able to edit and comment, supports documents up to 4 MB, and provides 1 GB of storage. The Pro plan ($10 USD per month or $120 per year) removes the active document limit, supports documents up to 16 MB, provides 50 GB of storage, and adds features like custom share links with their own branding, passwords, and expiry dates, plus the ability to connect to external APIs and enable camera, microphone, or location access.

FAQ
- What happens to my documents if I stop paying?
- Documents remain accessible at their links. From the end of the paid period, documents published with outbound network access are served with approved hosts only, so features that talk to other servers stop working, and browser features for camera, microphone, and location are switched off. Share links continue to work and can still be removed. Nothing is deleted and documents do not need to be republished. Subscribing again restores every document as it was.
- What does five active documents mean on Free?
- The five most recently published documents accept edits and comments from readers. Older documents are paused: they remain accessible at their links, keep all versions, edits and comments, and agents can still pull and reply. What stops is readers editing and commenting until you push a new version or make the document active again in the dashboard. The active-document limit does not block publishing a sixth document.
- What happens if I reach a limit?
- When a new version would exceed a limit, Onlay does not publish it and tells you which limit was reached. For per-minute limits, the message indicates how long to wait. The daily publishing limit resets at 00:00 UTC.
- Who bills me?
- Payments are processed by Stripe through Clerk, who handle sign-in for the dashboard. The company does not see or store card information. Subscriptions are managed, switched between monthly and yearly, and cancelled on the Plan page.
- Do the people I share a page with need anything?
- Readers never pay. They can open and comment through a general link without an account unless you restrict access or require sign-in. Collaborative editing requires sign-in; invited readers can use their personal email link.
