It uses classical computer vision techniques to suppress surface glare, restore colour absorption caused by water depth, and lift subsurface contrast—all processed locally on your device without transmitting data to any server.
The app works as a live viewfinder, not a post-processor. Simply hold your phone over the water from a boat, jetty, shore or pier and see the enhancements in real time. DepthGaze is built on Beer-Lambert physics-based colour correction, multi-frame stacking, and edge detection—no machine learning or AI.
It offers a free tier with Standard mode, Low Light, and full-resolution capture and saving. DepthGaze Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks additional specialist processing modes (DeGlare, Deep Boost, Edge Reveal, Spectral, Structure) and analysis tools (Smart Mode, Spot Score, Image Tools).

- Does DepthGaze work below the surface?
- No. DepthGaze is a tool for looking down at the water from above—boat, pier, shore, or jetty—with the phone's camera staying dry.
- Does it measure depth?
- No. The Structure feature visualises relative depth as banded zones like a nautical chart, but it does not produce numeric depth, distance, or measurement readings of any kind.
- Does it use AI?
- No. DepthGaze uses classical computer vision techniques including Beer-Lambert colour restoration, multi-frame stacking, percentile contrast, and edge detection, with no machine learning or neural networks.
- Is my data private?
- Yes. There is no telemetry, analytics, cloud upload, or third-party tracking. Photos save to your phone's gallery and stay there, with optional opt-in location tagging that you control.
- Does it work at night?
- No. Low Light mode lifts dawn, dusk, and heavy-overcast scenes — situations with weak ambient light. Full night with no ambient illumination is outside what the camera sensor can see.
