ChatExport

About ChatExport

ChatExport reads iPhone backups on your Windows PC and exports conversations to multiple formats. It preserves every message, photo, timestamp and attachment exactly as stored on the iPhone, including from encrypted backups. The software offers PDF with multiple layouts (Court View, Chat View, or Book View), HTML, TXT, CSV, and RSMF formats. It also reads WhatsApp exports from iPhone or Android. All processing happens locally with no cloud upload or account required. The program includes features like SHA256 integrity verification, call logs in encrypted backups, edited and deleted message tracking, and document output in 14 languages.

FAQ

Do I need iTunes to export iPhone messages?

You need Apple's own software to make the backup (either Apple Devices app or iTunes), but ChatExport does not replace it; it reads the backup afterwards. If ChatExport cannot find Apple's software or a backup, it walks you through the exact next step.

Does my iPhone have to stay plugged in?

Only while the backup is being made. After that the phone can go back in your pocket. ChatExport works from the backup folder on your PC, with the phone nowhere near it.

Do you need my Apple ID or my iCloud password?

No. ChatExport never signs in to anything. It reads a folder of files that Apple's software already wrote to your own disk. The only password it can ask for is the one you set on an encrypted backup, and that one is used on your machine and then forgotten.

Which iPhones and iOS versions work?

Backups from iOS 11 up to the current release. ChatExport detects the database layout of each iOS version and adapts, which is why old backups from a phone you no longer own still open.

I have never made a backup. What do I do?

You do not have to make one first. Plug the iPhone in, unlock it, and ChatExport asks the phone for the backup itself, over the cable. Answer the Trust and passcode prompts on the phone. Apple Devices or iTunes still has to be installed, because the USB driver comes from there, but you never have to open it. How long it takes depends on how much is on the phone, and a repeat backup copies only what changed.
