About ARIA Protocol

ARIA (Agent Registry for Identity & Authorization) solves the critical gap of AI agent identity across organizational boundaries. It provides every AI agent with an AID (Agent Identity Document)—a W3C Verifiable Credential cryptographically signed with ML-DSA-65 + Ed25519 composite signatures. The protocol features four trust levels from self-declared (L0, issued today) to sovereign entity-backed (L3, planned), DNS anchoring starting at L1, and a Trust Ledger recording all credential lifecycle events. ARIA AP enables agents to use their identity with services by signing requests and receiving signed receipts. Built on existing standards including W3C DIDs, W3C Verifiable Credentials, RFC 9421, and FIPS 204 post-quantum cryptography, ARIA is governed by TrustLayer Foundation, a nonprofit steward, and operationally deployed by TUNO Labs.

FAQ
- What is an AID?
- An AID (Agent Identity Document) is a W3C Verifiable Credential that contains the agent's identity, who authorized it, and the scopes it declares. It is cryptographically signed, portable, and independently verifiable, including offline.
- What are the four trust levels?
- L0 (Self-declared, issued today) provides cryptographic existence with automatic issuance via email challenge and key possession. L1 (Identified, planned) adds verified natural person and domain verification. L2 (Certified, planned) verifies the entity and links the person to it. L3 (Sovereign, planned) requires a Binding Officer, certified hardware keys, and signed accountability.
- How does DNS anchoring work?
- Starting at L1, a credential names a domain its principal has bound with one DNS TXT record, published once for all its agents. This uses the same infrastructure that has governed the internet for 40 years. L0 operates without DNS as the cryptographic entry point with zero friction.
- What cryptography does ARIA use?
- ARIA uses ML-DSA-65 + Ed25519 composite signatures (FIPS 204 + RFC 8032). Both signatures must verify. This is post-quantum native from launch, not a migration plan.
- What is ARIA AP?
- ARIA AP is how an agent uses its identity with a service. The agent checks the receiver's signed identity, signs each request with its own key, and receives a signed receipt for each operation. The receiver admits or refuses by its own rules.
