About SceneSeal
SceneSeal is an iPhone application designed to help renters document rental car condition at pickup and return. The app guides users through a structured photo capture process, starting with exterior shots and then interior and existing damage documentation. At return, users photograph the same angles to create comparable before-and-after pairs.
The app organizes these photos and allows users to export a complete evidence package including a readable PDF report, original photograph files, and a machine-readable manifest. Users can optionally add independent timestamps from Sigstore's Timestamp Authority to establish when the photo set existed. The captured photos and rental records remain stored locally on the device with no account or cloud upload required.
Capture and organization are free. Exporting a complete evidence package requires an in-app purchase. The app provides no automatic damage detection; users decide which marks to photograph and document.

FAQ
- What can I do for free?
- Download SceneSeal, photograph and organize your rental, and explore the Example Rental. Exporting your own rental as a complete PDF with original files requires an in-app purchase.
- Where are my rental photos stored?
- On your device. There is no SceneSeal account or photo upload service. Export and save a copy somewhere you control before deleting the app or replacing your phone.
- Does SceneSeal need an internet connection?
- Photography, organization and report generation happen on your iPhone. Arrange your export purchase before travelling: buying or restoring access uses the App Store, and an optional independent timestamp needs a connection to the timestamp authority.
- Does it detect damage automatically?
- No. You choose which marks to photograph and describe. SceneSeal organizes the record and matches pickup and return views; it does not decide liability or guarantee that a claim will be accepted.
- What does an independent timestamp prove?
- It can establish that the sealed files existed by the authority's stated time. It does not certify the exact moment you took a photo, the location or the handover. Only a file-list fingerprint is sent to the authority.
