About Retroable

The Retroable homepage

Retroable is an AI-powered game creation tool that lets people describe a retro game in plain English and automatically generates a real, playable ROM file for Game Boy or Game Boy Color hardware. Users describe their game idea, review concept art and menu designs, request changes, then receive a compiled ROM that runs on real hardware, emulators, and browsers. The tool supports creating physical cartridges in custom retail boxes. Game Boy and Game Boy Color are currently available; Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, Game Gear, and Mega Drive are in development. The service uses a monthly credit system based on subscription plans, with each game requiring 45 credits to start and additional credits consumed during the build process.

FAQ

What is Retroable?
Retroable turns a game idea into a real, playable ROM. Users describe a game in a few sentences and optionally add a sketch. Retroable writes the code, builds and tests the game, which can then be played in the browser or downloaded. The original Game Boy and Game Boy Color are currently supported, with more consoles in development.
How long does a new game take?
Game creation typically takes 20 to 60 minutes. Users can close the page and receive an email notification when the game is ready.
Can I order my game as a physical cartridge?
Yes. Users can order a cartridge from their game page, made and shipped to the address provided at checkout. Ultra includes one hardware voucher, Creator Lifetime includes one, Studio Lifetime includes two, and Ultra Lifetime includes four. Each voucher covers one physical release sample for one platform.
Do I see the game before it is built?
Yes. Retroable first generates a splash screen, main menu, and one or two game scenes for review. Users can request changes, with each revision round using one Retro AI credit. The full build starts once the user approves the concept images.
Which consoles can Retroable build for?
Retroable makes games for the original Game Boy and for Game Boy Color. Game Boy Advance, NES, SNES, Game Gear, and Mega Drive are in development, and not all of them can be used yet. On the home page, a console that is still in development asks for your email instead of starting a build.
