An API that gives AI agents long-term memory by storing timestamped information and returning current facts with dated sources and evidence.

About past.dev

The past.dev homepage

past.dev is a memory layer for AI agents that stores timestamped text and retrieves ranked, dated evidence. Applications send emails, call notes, tickets and chats stamped with when they happened. When an agent needs context, it asks past.dev and gets current facts with dated sources behind them, limited to what that reader is allowed to see.

The Memory API gives agents what a longer context window does not: a record of what is true now, what it replaced, and when each fact changed. It derives facts, rules, names and dated events from ingested text. Every recall result carries verbatim excerpts, dates and source record ids so answers can be traced to original documents.

past.dev is state of the art on BEAM, the benchmark for long-term memory in agents, scoring 92.08% at 100K tokens and 85.03% at 10M tokens. It also answers 93.12% of questions on the LoCoMo benchmark.

FAQ

How does past.dev differ from vector search memory systems?
past.dev returns current facts with dates and sources rather than similarity-ranked text. It knows which statement is current and which is outdated. For example, when budget information changes from $32k to $40k, past.dev returns the current $40k amount from the latest date and keeps the previous value as history.
What does the past.dev Memory API return?
The Memory API returns ranked documents with their dates, verbatim excerpts from source records, and the ids of those sources. Each response states whether the evidence supports an answer. Results can be traced to the original emails, tickets, or other source documents.
How does pricing work?
past.dev uses a credit-based system. One credit buys 350 bytes of an ingested payload. Pay as you go starts free with 150,000 credits (or 400,000 with a work email), then costs $30 per 100,000 credits. Flex starts at $99/month with 400,000 credits included and unlimited recall calls. Enterprise is custom from 5,000,000 credits per month. Storage, entities and seats are never metered.
What is BEAM and how does past.dev perform on it?
BEAM is a benchmark for long-term memory in agents that asks 2,000 questions about 100 long conversations at four history sizes from 100K to 10M tokens, grading ten abilities including event ordering and contradiction resolution. past.dev scores 92.08% at 100K tokens, 89.63% at 500K, 90.65% at 1M, and 85.03% at 10M tokens, ranking first at every size.
Can I self-host past.dev?
Self-hosting is available only on an Enterprise agreement. Pay as you go and Flex run on the managed service. A self-hosted deployment runs the same API and console inside your own infrastructure. Early-stage startups can apply for six months of Flex at no charge.
