About Marelleo
Marelleo is a story box designed for children that plays audio content when a figurine is placed on top. The device uses an RFID reader to detect tagged figurines and triggers audio playback without screens, menus, or complex interfaces. Built by Arnaud Aubry for his three children, the project evolved from a breadboard prototype through soldering on perfboard to a fully manufactured printed circuit board, with a 3D-printed enclosure designed to withstand regular use by young children.
The device features volume control, USB-C charging, WiFi connectivity for story updates, and uses a lithium battery power source. Custom figurines are created with NFC stickers attached underneath, allowing children to associate specific stories with physical objects. The entire system can be controlled and updated through a web interface.
