About FixMP4
FixMP4 repairs corrupted video files that won't play due to missing or damaged indexes. Most "corrupted" videos have intact audio and video frames on disk but lack the index (moov atom) that tells players where each frame is located. This typically happens when recording stops unexpectedly due to dead battery, crash, full memory card, or app termination.
The tool runs entirely in your browser on your own device using JavaScript, so files never leave your computer. It reads the damaged file locally, scans for surviving frames, recognizes H.264 and HEVC video codecs and AAC audio, and writes a fresh standard index. For video files, you typically need a short reference clip recorded with the same device and settings to provide the codec parameters that were stored in the lost index.
FixMP4 shows you a free 15-second preview of your repaired file before you pay. Diagnosis and previews are always free; exporting full repaired files requires a subscription.

- Is my video uploaded to a server?
- No. The repair runs entirely in your browser on your own device. The file is never sent to FixMP4 or anyone else.
- Why do videos break when the battery dies?
- Phones and cameras write the frame index only when you press stop. If power is lost first, the frames are on disk without an index, so players report the file as broken. FixMP4 writes that index from the frames.
- Does it work on large files?
- Yes. Files are read in slices, so multi-gigabyte recordings work. The test matrix includes a 4.4 GB file and a 45-minute recording.
