About AI or Real
AI or Real is a daily game that tests whether you can distinguish AI-generated images from real photographs. Each day at midnight UTC, a new set of 10 photos is released mixing real photographs from open libraries with AI-generated images. After each guess, you see the answer, the percentage of players who got it right, and details that give it away.
Beyond the daily puzzle, the game offers multiple play modes: an endless quiz with one photo at a time, a "Spot the AI" mode with four photos where one is fake, and an "AI vs Real" mode comparing two versions of the same scene. You can play older puzzles in the archive, which includes every answer, the tell for each photo, and photographer credits.
The game includes learning resources covering how to spot AI images, with specific guidance on hands and fingers, text and signs, reflections and mirrors, light and shadows, skin and faces, and background details. Real photos come from open libraries under CC0, public domain, or CC BY licenses, and AI images are generated from several current models to prevent learning one style.

- How does AI or Real work?
- Every day at midnight UTC there is a new set of 10 photos. For each one you decide whether it is a real photograph or an AI-generated image. After each guess you see the answer, how many players got it right, and the detail that gives it away.
- Where do the real photos come from?
- Real photos come from open libraries like Openverse and Wikimedia Commons, licensed CC0, public domain or CC BY. Every real photo is credited to its photographer after you guess.
- Which AI models make the fake images?
- Several current image models are used including Seedream, Gemini and GPT Image, so you cannot learn the style of just one. Many AI images are prompted from a description of a real photo in the same set, so the subject alone does not give the answer away.
- Can I play older puzzles?
- Yes. The day after a puzzle runs, it moves to the archive with every answer, the tell for each photo and the photo credits. The quiz serves the photos of every earlier puzzle in random order, without limit.
- Is it free?
- Yes. The game is free and needs no account. Your streak and stats are stored on your device.
